Financial Analyst Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Assists with monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting process in accordance with established timelines. Manages monthly account reconciliation and analysis in accordance with department policy. Ensures integrity and completeness of integrated accounting structure so financial activity of companies can be accurately reported. Assists in ensuring and enhancing the control environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

1. Assists with monthly general ledger closing process in accordance with established departmental timelines. Oversees financial statement preparation and ensures statements are completed in accordance with Accounting Principles Generally Accepted in the United States. Verifies accuracy and timeliness of statements. Reviews monthly financial statements with Controller.
2. Oversees monthly general ledger account reconciliation and analysis. Works with Controller in establishing timelines for completing and reviewing reconciliations in accordance with departmental policy. Maintains mechanism for tracking reconciliation status. Performs timely review of assigned reconciliations and follows up on variance resolution.
3. Researches and analyzes fluctuations between current period financial results compared to prior year, prior month and budgeted amounts and reports significant variances to the Controller.
4. Assists Controller in preparation of annual budget as directed.
5. Assists Controller in ensuring and enhancing the control environment and compliance in safeguarding the company's assets and accurate financial reporting. Presents recommendations for controls and process improvements to Controller for consideration and assists in implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business

EXPERIENCE:

Two to four years of relevant accounting experience

Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred but not required

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with teammate and the general public, to maintain confidentiality in daily operations, to conduct daily duties in a professional appearance and manner

Ability to enter data into accounting records accurately

Ability to explain accounting issues and entries to internal and external contacts

Ability to use standard spreadsheet and database software

Ability to successfully work in team environment

Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced and demanding environment

Must be self-motivated and be able to think independently

Must be able to maintain confidential information

ROUTINE DECISIONS AND FORMAL POLICY SETTING:
